Both hippie men and women let their hair grow long and wild.

The group was known for its rebellious attitude toward repressive societies and celebration of freedom nature and peace. The free flowing hippie fashion of the 1970s reflected the youth cultures response to the strict mores and conservative values of the 1950s and 1960s. The 60s hippie was simpler more earthy.

To go with jeans a hippie would wear a strapless undershirt. Hippie and psychedelic culture influenced 1960s and early 1970s young culture in iron curtain countries in eastern europe see manicka. By the time i went to college in the fall of 1968 my entire clothing style changed.

One which would grow out of the san francisco valley and spill into the daily lives of the masses at home and abroad within the span of a couple of years.

Defined by their carefree and laid back attitude hippies adopted a more eclectic leisurely style that symbolized peace love and equality for all.
